Kallakurichi school girl’s body buried amid heavy police deployment | Chennai News

CHENNAI: The body of a Class XII girl student of a private school at Kaniyamoor in Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu was buried in her native village in Cuddalore district on Saturday without any incident, amid heavy police deployment.
The girl was found dead, with injuries on her body, on the school hostel premises on July 14 morning. Following her death, violence broke out at Kaniyamoor on July 17. A mob torched school buildings and vehicles.
Ten days after the girl’s death, her parents received the body on Saturday morning.
Around 6.50 am, police handed over the body to the girl’s parents. The body was brought to her native village where the last rites were performed.
A large number of police personnel were deployed in the girl’s native village, Periya Nesalur. They allowed people to enter the village only after detailed inquiries.
State minister C V Ganesan, and leaders of political parties paid their last respects to the girl.
As per the Madras high court order, police instructed the girl’s parents to perform the last rites before 11am. The body was buried in a burial ground located more than a km away from her home around noon. Several villagers were present.
