CHENNAI: AIADMK legislature party has elected former ministers MLA R B Udayakumar and Agri S S Krishnamurthy as deputy leader of opposition and deputy secretary, respectively. The posts were held by former chief minister O Panneerselvam and his supporter Paul Manoj Pandian.
The legislature party unanimously chose the members at its meeting held on Sunday, said party interim general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami in a statement.
Udayakumar and Krishnamurthy represent Thirumangalam and Polur assembly constituencies, respectively.
In a representation to Tamil Nadu assembly speaker M Appavu on July 12, Panneerselvam said he was the coordinator of the AIADMK as per party bylaws and as per the Election Commission records, he was vested with the powers to allot party symbol to the candidates to contest in election. Still, the general council was convened violating the party bylaws, resolutions were passed to amend the bylaws.
“In the event of submission of any petition to change the office-bearers of the legislature party citing the decisions taken at the illegally convened party general council, I request you to reject them pointing to the pending cases in the court and the records of the Election Commission,” Panneerselvam said.
